Andy Williams, AEW wrestler and musician, dies at 48
Professional wrestler and musician Andy Williams, known in the ring as ‘The Butcher’, passed away at age 48 following a medical emergency during an Enjoy Wrestling event in Millvale, Pennsylvania, on September 5. Williams, who was a prominent member of the tag team Butcher and The Blade in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and a guitarist for the band Every Time I Die, collapsed during a match. While on-site medical staff and physicians performed CPR and used an AED, he was later pronounced dead at Allegheny General Hospital.
Millvale Borough Police reported no signs of trauma or foul play, noting that Williams may have struck his head on a ring post, though the official cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
AEW and Ring of Honor (ROH) have held multiple tributes, including a ten-bell salute and emotional on-air remembrances. A public ‘celebration of life’ is scheduled for September 27 at Buffalo RiverWorks in his hometown of Buffalo, New York. The event will feature acoustic musical tributes from various artists, including members of Cave In and Four Year Strong.
