Death of wrestler and musician Andy Williams

Overview

Andy Williams, a professional wrestler known as ‘The Butcher’ and a musician with the band Every Time I Die, died at age 48 following a medical emergency during an Enjoy Wrestling event at the Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale, Pennsylvania.

Initial reports indicated that Williams collapsed during a tag-team match alongside Jesse ‘The Blade’ Guilmette. On-site medical staff performed CPR and used an AED before he was transported to Allegheny General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. While early reports suggested symptoms consistent with a cardiac event, the official cause of death remains pending an autopsy by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Millvale Borough Police reported that Williams struck his head on a ring post during the match. While authorities stated there were no visible signs of trauma or indications of foul play, Kurt Hackimer, co-owner of Enjoy Wrestling, previously noted that Williams hit his head on the floor and was initially conscious but unresponsive before his condition deteriorated.

Tributes have been issued by various figures in the wrestling and music industries, including All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Ring of Honor (ROH), the latter of which held a 10-bell salute during tapings in Jacksonville, Florida.

A public celebration of life is scheduled for September 27 at Buffalo River Works in his hometown of Buffalo, New York. The event will feature acoustic musical tributes from artists including members of Cave In, Four Year Strong, and Anthony Green. Williams’ widow, Hana DeVore, has expressed gratitude for the support from fans and colleagues.
