Angamaly court rejects bail for four in fatal Nedumbassery crash

An Angamaly court has rejected bail applications for four individuals—Suhail, Ninav, Joel, and Ameen—involved in a fatal crash on the Nedumbassery Airport Road. The accident, which occurred at approximately 1:45 am last Sunday, involved a speeding Mini Cooper striking a scooter and killing three young employees: Iyaz Ibrahim, Devika, and Gopika.

The prosecution has presented evidence suggesting alcohol consumption, noting that blood and urine tests of the accused confirmed intoxication. Prosecutors argued that the primary accused, 19-year-old Suhail Sajeev, was aware of the consequences of his actions, and that the other occupants failed to prevent him from driving while intoxicated. The vehicle’s event data recorder has been sent for examination to determine the exact impact details.

Defense counsel has contested the charges, including Section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, alleging that the accused are being framed and questioning the lack of eyewitness statements. They also suggested that the presence of three people on a single scooter may have contributed to the loss of control.
