Fatal Mini Cooper crash in Nedumbassery
Overview
A high-speed Mini Cooper crash near Kochi, India, resulted in the deaths of three 21-year-old students, identified as Iyaz Ibrahim, Devika, and Gopika, who were riding a scooter when they were struck from behind.
Police arrested the driver, 19-year-old Suhail Sajeev, and three accomplices—Ninav, Ameer, and Joel—charging them with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Investigators indicated that the driver was traveling at high speeds and was under the influence of alcohol. Witnesses reported that following the collision, Sajeev claimed his father would ‘handle everything.’
In subsequent legal proceedings, an Angamaly court rejected bail applications for the four individuals. The prosecution presented blood and urine tests confirming intoxication and submitted the vehicle’s event data recorder for examination. While the defense contested the charges and suggested the number of people on the scooter may have contributed to the accident, the court maintained the detention of the accused.
