Sara Kolak wins gold in women's javelin at European Championships
At the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Croatian javelin thrower Sara Kolak secured the gold medal with a first-round throw of 62.43 meters. This victory marks a significant comeback for the 31-year-old Olympic champion, who had not won a major championship medal in ten years following her Rio 2016 triumph.
Germany’s Julia Ulbricht took the silver medal with a throw of 61.53 meters, while Serbia’s Adriana Vilagoš earned the bronze with a mark of 60.93 meters. Vilagoš, 22, secured her third European championship medal after previously winning silver in Munich and Rome.
Other notable results from the championships include Marija Vuković winning bronze in the high jump with a height of 1.95 meters, and German Julian Weber setting a new European championship record in the men’s javelin with a throw of 90.40 meters. Serbian high jumper Angelina Topić finished 12th in the women’s high jump final after struggling with the cold conditions.
