Angola chicken skin import ban threatens sausage industry
The Angolan sausage and mortadella industry faces supply threats following a ban on chicken skin imports. The Institute of Veterinary Services (ISV), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, recently seized four 40-foot containers of chicken skin at the Port of Luanda, belonging to companies Mafcom and SanoDias.
Industry representative Mafcom states that the sector requires at least 10 containers of chicken skin per month to maintain production, arguing that domestic supply is insufficient. The import ban, which took effect in July 2025, classifies chicken skin as a “slaughterhouse residue” in markets such as Brazil and Europe, raising concerns regarding sanitary safety and processing conditions.
The seized goods remain in the custody of authorities while administrative and sanitary procedures are conducted according to current legislation.
