Angola and Tanzania inaugurate Julius Nyerere Hospital as African leaders deepen diplomatic ties

On 1 August 2026 Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Angola President João Lourenço cut the ribbon on the new President Julius Nyerere Hospital in Kilamba, Luanda. The modern facility, named after Tanzania’s founding father, was opened in the presence of his widow, Mama Maria Nyerere, and highlighted Angola’s tribute to Nyerere’s support for African liberation movements. The leaders pledged to expand trade, investment and health cooperation.

Gabon's President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema carried out a three‑day state visit to Sierra Leone from 2‑4 August 2026, meeting President Julius Maada Bio to discuss agriculture, transport, infrastructure and other strategic sectors. He also toured cultural and health sites in the Gambia, underscoring heritage preservation and health‑system strengthening.

Angola received an official invitation for Benin National Assembly President Joseph Djogbénou on 31 July 2026, proposing a high‑level parliamentary exchange to boost inter‑parliamentary cooperation.

In Accra, Ghana President John Dramani Mahama and Gabon President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema signed two memoranda of understanding on political consultation and diplomatic training, aiming to deepen economic collaboration across multiple sectors and leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area.
