African inter‑parliamentary cooperation

In early August 2026 Angola and Tanzania marked another milestone when President João Lourenço and President Samia Suluhu Hassan opened the President Julius Nyerere Hospital in Luanda’s Kilamba district. The ceremony, attended by the widow of Tanzania’s founding father, highlighted Angola’s tribute to Nyerere and reinforced pledges to expand trade, investment and health cooperation between the two nations.

Later in July, Angola formally invited Benin National Assembly President Joseph Djogbénou for a high‑level parliamentary exchange, building on earlier outreach to Benin’s legislature.

In Accra, Ghana President John Drahmani Mahama and Gabon President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema signed memoranda of understanding on political consultation and diplomatic training, aiming to deepen economic collaboration across multiple sectors and leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area.

These events extend the network of inter‑parliamentary and diplomatic links across Africa, complementing earlier Russia‑Africa parliamentary engagement and Angola’s regional outreach.
