Angola inflation falls to 8.78% in August

Angola's annual inflation rate fell to 8.78% in August, marking the second consecutive month that the rate has remained below the double-digit threshold. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), this represents a deceleration of 0.55 percentage points from July and a decrease of 10.09 percentage points compared to the same period last year.

Since the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) series began in 2015, this is only the second time that annual inflation in the country has stayed below 10% for two consecutive months. In July, the inflation rate was recorded at 9.33%.

The category of ‘food and non-alcoholic beverages’ was the largest contributor to price increases, adding 6.01 percentage points in August. Other contributors included goods and services (0.43 percentage points), health (0.42 percentage points), and education (0.37 percentage points).

At the provincial level, Cabinda (11.53%), Malanje (11.25%), and Lunda Sul (10.69%) saw the highest year-on-year price increases. The lowest variations were recorded in Cuanza Norte (5.22%), Huambo (5.85%), and Cunene (6.69%).
