Angola manages Mpox cases in Zaire and Cabinda provinces

Angola is managing Mpox developments across different provinces. In Zaire, the first confirmed case has been recorded in the municipality of Tomboco. The patient, a national under the age of 35, reportedly presented symptoms approximately three weeks after consuming monkey meat. Following clinical suspicion and laboratory confirmation in Luanda, the individual was admitted to the Endemics Control Center in Tomboco for multidisciplinary care.

In Cabinda, health authorities have taken coercive measures to prevent the spread of the virus by closing three lodging establishments. Inspections revealed severe sanitary failures, including unhygienic bedding and poor surface cleanliness. Local epidemiological data suggests that a significant portion of confirmed Mpox cases in the province originated from sexual transmission within pensions and guesthouses. The Multisectoral Commission for the Prevention and Combat of Monkeypox has stated that inspections will continue to identify and close any clandestine facilities operating outside of public health guidelines.
