Angola reports high rates of violence against children

Angola has recorded 9,072 cases of violence against children during the first half of 2026, according to data presented at a symposium in Luanda. Of these, 645 cases involved sexual violence, averaging nearly four reports per day.

Paulo Kalesi, Director-General of the National Institute for Children (INAC), reported that 15% of sexual abuse perpetrators were religious leaders or pastors who have since been detained. Officials noted that many abuses occurred within places of worship, specifically during vigils and mountain services.

Dina Emiliana Mayimona, Secretary of State for Social Action, emphasized that protecting children is essential for building a secure society. She called for collective responsibility, urging religious leaders to ensure that places of worship provide safety and protection rather than fear or silence for children.
