Angolan citizen sentenced and social media ban issued amid regional calls for anti-dictatorship marches

In Angola, Gerson Emanuel Quintas, known as ‘Man Genas’, has been sentenced to a two-year suspended prison term and a two-year ban from using social media. The court found him guilty of insulting the State after he accused high-ranking members of the National Police and the Angolan Armed Forces of involvement in drug trafficking. While Quintas was acquitted of making serious offenses against President João Lourenço, his wife was acquitted of charges but received the same two-year social media ban.

In a separate regional development, Venâncio Mondlane, president of Anamola, is mobilizing support for a march against dictatorships in Africa. Mondlane has called for peaceful demonstrations directed at embassies to protest authoritarian regimes, corruption, and human rights violations across the continent. The initiative specifically aims to draw attention to the situation in Zimbabwe and the release of Bhekimpilo Mbedzi.
