Angurria creates tallest mural in the United States in the Bronx
Dominican visual artist Néstor Omar García, known as Angurria, has completed a mural in the Bronx that is considered the tallest in the United States. Standing at over 260 feet, the artwork covers a 29-story tower at the Morrisania Air Rights Houses, a NYCHA public housing complex located at 158th Street and Park Avenue.
The piece, titled “Un MAR de Gente / From Every Shore,” depicts a woman wearing hair rollers, a figure inspired by the artist’s mother’s beauty salon in Los Alcarrizos. The mural serves as a tribute to the Dominican and Latino roots that contribute to New York City’s identity.
This work surpasses the previous national record held by German artist MadC in Miami. The project was commissioned by Art Bridge, funded by MAC Cosmetics, and produced by Monumenta, a large-scale public art producer from the Dominican creative group Grupo EPREI.
