Angus bull ‘Álvaro’ sets record sale in Argentina

An Angus bull named ‘Álvaro’ has set a new record in the Argentine livestock sector. During an auction in Tres Arroyos, 50% of the bull's ownership was sold for 300 million pesos, approximately US$200,000.

Owned by the Bellocq family's Cabaña Santa Rosa, the bull was acquired by a consortium of breeders and ranchers from La Pampa. The sale surpasses previous records, such as the 2025 sale of the Brangus bull ‘Mafioso’ for US$180,000.

Álvaro's high value is attributed to his elite genetics and competitive performance. He was named Grand Champion Red Male at the Autumn Angus Exhibition and placed third Best Bull at the Palermo Rural Exhibition. The purchasing consortium will have exclusive use of the bull for semen extraction until the end of the year, with his genetics becoming available for wider commercialization starting in 2027.
