Angus cattle industry shows growth and shifting trends in Argentina
Livestock industry events in Argentina have highlighted the growing importance of the Angus breed. During the Spring Angus Week at the Cañuelas Angus Convention Center, industry experts discussed the shifting market dynamics. Juan Martin Ojea Rullan, Director of Angus, noted that the global value of beef has increased as animal protein is increasingly valued worldwide. He also observed a significant shift in breed color preferences, stating that while black Angus cattle historically dominated, red varieties have seen a substantial rise in value and prevalence over the last two decades, moving from a 90/10 split to approximately 60/40.
In the Río Negro province, the 46th Rural Exhibition in Choele Choel concluded with livestock judging for Angus and Hereford breeds. In the Angus category, the Grand Champion Male (PP) award was presented to Cabaña Don Juan, owned by Federico Gilardi. Other notable winners included Cabaña Los Murmullos as the Reserve Grand Champion Male (PP) and Cerro Chenque SRL for the Grand Champion Female (PP).
