Hungarian Parliament bans MP Toroczkai and clarifies NVVH selection

Hungarian Parliament Speaker Ágnes Forsthoffer has banned Mi Hazánk leader László Toroczkai from this week’s parliamentary sessions. The decision follows Toroczkai’s use of language that Forsthoffer described as violating fundamental rights and human dignity. The conflict arose after Toroczkai responded to allegations of lobbying by calling Prime Minister Péter Magyar a “cowardly, disgusting worm” and accusing him of involvement in corruption-related cases.

Separately, Anikó Hallerné Nagy, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, has addressed the controversy surrounding the selection of Anna Unger as the head of the National Asset Recovery and Asset Protection Agency (NVVH). Contrary to previous claims by the Tisza party that a point-based system was used to select candidates, Hallerné stated that no such objective scoring system existed. She explained that the committee had to consider factors that could not be quantified, such as political risks and potential conflicts of interest.

Hallerné noted that the committee deliberated extensively between candidates, including Miklós Ligeti and Anna Unger. She clarified that the committee intentionally avoided selecting only the most popular candidates to ensure equal opportunity and professional suitability. Unger was ultimately chosen based on her vision for the agency’s framework, with the intention of delegating technical tasks to deputy heads.
