Animal cruelty incidents spark outrage in Argentina and Venezuela

Incidents of animal cruelty have sparked public outrage in Tafí Viejo, Argentina, and Maracaibo, Venezuela.

In Tafí Viejo, residents and animal rights groups marched to the local police station following an attack on a litter of newborn kittens. A suspect allegedly used an air rifle to target four kittens, resulting in the immediate death of one and leaving another critically injured. Protesters are demanding the application of Animal Protection Law 14.346 and the arrest of the perpetrator, citing video and photographic evidence provided to authorities.

In Maracaibo, Venezuela, the organization Proteccionistas del estado Zulia reported that passengers in a private vehicle abandoned newborn kittens on the Circunvalación 2 highway near the ‘El Turf’ service station. The animals were subsequently run over. Activists are calling for the enforcement of the municipal ordinance regarding animal responsibility, tenure, and protection to prevent further impunity.
