Animal rescue operators face neglect and fraud charges in US and South Africa

Separate legal actions have been initiated against animal rescue operators in South Africa and the United States following allegations of severe neglect and fraud.

In South Africa, Jamie Pieterse, founder of K9 Pet Army, faces 11 charges including animal neglect and fraud. The case follows an SPCA intervention where investigators alleged that dogs were kept in conditions violating the Animals Protection Act. Pieterse has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In the United States, Christine De Anda, operator of Rock ‘N’ Pawz in Lake Hughes, faces 35 felony and misdemeanor counts. Prosecutors allege she kept over 300 animals, including dogs, cats, and livestock, in filthy and inhumane conditions involving starvation and dehydration. De Anda faces up to 24.5 years in prison if convicted.
