Animal welfare authorities initiate legal actions in Paraguay and Chile

In Paraguay, the National Directorate of Animal Defense, Health, and Welfare has filed a formal complaint with the Public Ministry following reports of animal neglect. The action follows viral footage showing two horses left exposed to intense winds and heavy rain during a storm at a company in the Itapé area of Caapucú, Paraguarí. The authorities are seeking a criminal investigation for alleged animal cruelty and mistreatment under Law No. 7513/2025, requesting assistance to identify the owners and determine responsibility.

In Chile, legal proceedings have been initiated following the seizure of wildlife by the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) and the Investigative Police (PDI). During an inspection in Tomé, authorities removed a quique and three choroy parrots from a residence due to allegations of irregular possession of protected species. In response, the legal defense for veterinarian Cristian Herrera, associated with the Ñacurutú Foundation, has filed a lawsuit alleging falsification of public instruments and malicious reporting.
