Animal welfare concerns rise in Italy amid drought and abandonment

In Italy, animal welfare organizations and regional officials are raising alarms regarding threats to animal safety. In Liguria, the Partito Animalista Italiano and the Osservatorio Savonese Animalista have warned that prolonged drought and wildfires are depleting water sources and destroying habitats, leaving wildlife struggling to survive. The groups are calling for improved territorial management and have asked citizens to provide small water stations for animals.

Meanwhile, in Lombardy, regional official Gianluca Comazzi has issued an appeal against the ongoing issue of animal abandonment. He emphasized that abandoning animals is a criminal offense under the Italian Penal Code and poses a significant danger to public road safety. Citizens are being urged to report and denounce any instances of abandonment to help combat the phenomenon.
