Animal welfare initiatives gain momentum through donations and sterilization
Various community initiatives are underway to support animal welfare and population control. In Colombia, a campaign led by the Amigos con Corazón Animalista collective and supported by local government officials has collected over 1,300 kilograms of pet food. This donation aims to feed approximately 350 dogs and cats currently in foster homes. Organizers have set a target of two tons of food to ensure continuous support for rescued animals.
In El Paso, La Palma, a municipal campaign funded by 30,000 euros from participatory budgets has successfully performed 152 free sterilizations for dogs and cats. The program aims to manage feline colonies, prevent unwanted litters, and reduce animal abandonment. Local officials noted that the initiative has seen high citizen engagement, helping to promote responsible pet ownership and improve public health by preventing reproductive diseases.
