Animal welfare volunteers in Italy report growing crisis

Animal welfare volunteers in Italy are raising alarms regarding the increasing difficulty of managing stray animals and environmental hazards. In Gela, the association V.I.T.A. Randagia Odv, led by Giulia Cassaro, issued an open letter to the mayor denouncing the lack of structural institutional support. Volunteers report that they have been managing emergencies for 17 years, often relying on personal funds to cover veterinary expenses and rescue costs. The association is calling for a concrete municipal plan and adequate resources to address the systemic issue of stray animals.

In Molfetta, the association Lo Stregatto Molfetta highlighted the dangers of environmental pollution after rescuing a kitten whose head was trapped in an abandoned plastic bottle. The rescue required urgent veterinary intervention due to the animal experiencing respiratory distress. The incident has prompted calls for greater civic responsibility regarding waste disposal to prevent similar life-threatening situations for local fauna.
