The 19th edition of the ANIMASYROS International Animation Festival concluded in Ermoupolis, Syros, on September 27. The festival, recognized as one of the top 20 animation events in Europe, featured over 280 films from 50 countries.

This year’s programming honored the 200th anniversary of Ermoupolis and included seven competitive categories. Key award winners included Anna Mantzaris for the International Competition with ‘Please’, Konstantinos Demis for the Greek Competition with ‘The Dog’, and the film ‘Gauze’ for the Student Competition. Other winners included Eilidh Nicoll for ‘Saltwater’ in the Television and Commissioned Films section, Aisha Boudjillouli for ‘Eyeliner’ in Animapride, and Paul Jadoul for ‘The Eagle and the Kinglet’ in K. ID. S. The Audience Award went to ‘Unstoppable’ by Martin Lund.

Beyond its artistic merits, the festival serves as a professional hub for the animation industry in the Eastern Mediterranean through its Animation Agora Days, supported by Enterprise Greece. Festival President Vasilis Karamitsanis noted the event’s role in exporting Greek and European talent and highlighted goals for the upcoming 20th anniversary in 2027.
