Anita Among to be released from house arrest by order of President Museveni

Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced that President Yoweri Museveni has directed the release of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among from house arrest. The announcement was made via Muhoozi’s official X account.

Among had been under house arrest for approximately three months as part of ‘Operation Maliza Ufisadi’, a security campaign targeting senior officials accused of corruption, money laundering, and unexplained wealth. The investigation involved searches at various properties in Nakasero, Kigo, Ntinda, and Bukedea, during which investigators seized several high-end vehicles.

The probe has also led to the arrest and prosecution of several other senior parliamentary officials, including Chris Obore, Daniel Adilo, Leonard Okema, Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, and Emmanuel Emuron Okwi, on various corruption-related charges.
