Ugandan corruption probe of Anita Among

Overview

Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among was placed under house arrest for approximately three months as part of ‘Operation Maliza Ufisadi’, a security campaign targeting senior officials for alleged corruption, money laundering, and unexplained wealth. The investigation included searches of various properties and the seizure of high-end vehicles.

Following a directive from President Yoweri Museveni, announced by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Among was released from house arrest. Subsequently, Ugandan police exonerated her regarding allegations of corruption, illicit enrichment, and abuse of office. While police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed she has been cleared, official procedures must still be completed to formally conclude the investigation.
