Ankara defense team develops ballistic school backpacks
An Ankara-based defense industry team has developed a ballistic school backpack designed to protect students during armed attacks. The project was motivated by recent school shootings in Turkey and globally.
Developed by Business Development Specialist Mehmet Evci and his team, the backpack is designed to look like a standard school bag to avoid drawing attention. It is intended to serve as a protective barrier between a student and an attacker during an incident. The bag is only 300 grams heavier than a conventional backpack.
Technical tests conducted in international laboratories and through local shooting tests indicate the bag provides protection against 3.57mm, 5.56mm, 9mm, and 44 Magnum rounds, as well as shrapnel and sharp objects like knives. The team emphasized that the primary goal of the project is student safety rather than commercial gain.
