Turkish development of ballistic school backpacks
Overview
An Ankara-based defense team has developed a ballistic school backpack designed to protect students during armed attacks. The project aims to provide a protective barrier between a student and an attacker, using a design that resembles a standard school bag to avoid drawing attention. The backpack is approximately 300 grams heavier than conventional bags.
Technical specifications indicate the material can stop 9mm, .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, and 5.56mm ammunition, as well as shrapnel and sharp objects. The development was motivated by recent school shootings in Turkey, specifically an incident in Kahramanmaraş in April and an attack in Turgutlu in September. The product is currently marketed as a voluntary preventive option for parents and is available online for approximately $150.
