Turkey implements diverse regional agricultural support programs

Various regional initiatives across Turkey are focusing on enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability through education, seed preservation, and technological support.

In Ankara, the Metropolitan Municipality completed its third medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation course, providing 50 participants with Ministry of National Education-approved certificates. The training covered cultivation, harvesting, and the production of essential oils and extracts.

In Mersin, a project to preserve local seeds is underway, with the municipality providing heirloom chickpea seeds to producers to ensure genetic diversity and support local livelihoods. Similarly, in Muğla, a 'Little Farmers Agriculture Academy' was launched to teach children about plant cultivation and environmental awareness.

In Elazığ, government subsidies and the 'Activation of Agricultural Land Use' project have significantly boosted red lentil production. Through 75% grants for certified seeds and organic methods, production area is projected to reach 15,000 decares with a yield of 2,700 tons by 2026.

In Didim, the municipality is integrating urban landscaping with economic production by cultivating ornamental plants alongside medicinal herbs like mint and rosemary to produce essential oils. Meanwhile, in Ordu, hazelnut producers are adopting net systems to reduce labor costs by up to 80%, supported by a 50% government grant.
