Turkish municipalities launch new animal welfare and adoption centers

Turkish municipalities in Ankara and Karşıyaka are expanding services for street animals. The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) has opened a specialized Cat Sterilization, Adoption, and Life Center in Alacaatlı. This facility provides free sterilization, vaccination, microchipping, and adoption services. It also includes a specialized living area of over 3,000 square meters for disabled cats that cannot survive on the streets.

In Karşıyaka, the Bakioğlu Life Center and Shelter continues its efforts to improve living conditions for street animals. Since opening last October, the center has facilitated the adoption of 63 dogs, with 282 more currently awaiting new homes. The facility provides housing, medical care, training, and rehabilitation. Under current animal protection regulations, citizens aged 16 and older are eligible to adopt pets through the municipality's veterinary services.
