In early August 2026, the Konya Metropolitan Municipality issued a public alert warning residents about fraudulent pet‑adoption advertisements that misused the name of the city’s animal shelter and demanded payments for services that are actually free. The warning urged citizens to verify adoption information through official channels to avoid financial loss.

A few days later, the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality opened a new Cat Sterilization, Adoption and Living Center in Alacaatlı, providing free veterinary services—including sterilization, vaccination, microchipping, and adoption assistance—for cats. This facility, the fourth of its kind under Mayor Mansur Yavaş, includes a dedicated area of over 3,000 square meters for disabled cats.

Simultaneously, in Karşıyaka, the Bakioğlu Life Center and Shelter has been expanding its efforts to improve living conditions for street animals. Since its opening last October, the center has facilitated the adoption of 63 dogs, with 282 others currently awaiting homes. The facility provides housing, medical care, training, and rehabilitation, with municipal veterinary services allowing citizens aged 16 and older to participate in the adoption process.
