Turkey heat wave triggers widespread health and temperature warnings

The Turkish Health Ministry warned that summer heat and humidity are raising body temperature and causing fluid‑mineral loss, which can lead to fainting, nausea and dizziness. It urged people—especially the elderly, young children, pregnant women, chronic‑illness patients and outdoor workers—to drink 2.5–3 litres of water daily, avoid waiting for thirst, and choose drinks such as half‑fat milk, ayran or fruit juice instead of tea, coffee or sodas. The ministry also recommended light, loose clothing, cool showers and prompt medical care if heat‑related symptoms appear, together with a balanced diet rich in low‑fat dairy, olives, fresh vegetables and whole grains.

Meteorological services forecast a simultaneous heat wave and rain system across Turkey. Temperatures are expected to rise to 43 °C in the southeastern provinces and reach 37–41 °C along the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts. Night‑time heat will persist in many areas. Localised thunderstorms with hail and strong winds are predicted for the Black‑Sea coast, the Toros mountains and parts of central Anatolia, while most of the country will remain clear and sunny.

Authorities advised the public to limit outdoor activity between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., stay in shade, keep hydrated and monitor vulnerable individuals for signs of heat stroke.
