Anker Japan speaker fire prompts Consumer Affairs Agency warning

The Consumer Affairs Agency has issued a warning regarding a fire involving Anker Japan’s rechargeable speaker, the ‘Soundcore 3’. On June 15, a fire occurred in Okinawa Prefecture, damaging a vehicle and its surroundings where the device was located.

This product has been subject to a voluntary recall and exchange program since October 21, 2025, affecting 91,933 units sold between December 2022 and October 2025. The recall was initiated due to the potential for foreign matter contamination during the manufacturing process of battery cells, which could lead to internal short circuits and fires.

As of August 13, 2026, the recall rate stands at 43.7%. While it is currently unclear if the recent Okinawa incident is linked to the existing recall, five fire incidents related to the recall have already been reported (three in fiscal year 2025 and two in fiscal year 2026). The Consumer Affairs Agency is urging owners of the affected product who have not yet participated in the recall to stop using the device immediately and contact Anker Japan.
