ANMAT issues alert over illegal sale of experimental weight-loss drug Retatrutide

Argentina’s National Administration of Drugs, Foods and Medical Technology (ANMAT) has issued a health alert regarding the illegal sale of Retatrutide, an experimental weight-loss drug. The substance is currently in clinical trial stages and has not received regulatory approval from ANMAT, the US FDA, or Brazil’s Anvisa.

Retatrutide is being marketed clandestinely through social media, websites, and messaging platforms as a peptide for rapid weight loss and metabolic improvement. ANMAT warned that because these products are sold without oversight, there is a high risk of microbiological contamination, incorrect dosages, or the presence of different active ingredients, which could lead to severe infections or death.

The alert follows reports of adverse effects, including an incident where influencer Sofía Gonet required urgent medical attention after experiencing dizziness, fever, and nausea following the use of the illicit injectable. Security forces in the Triple Frontier region have already seized illegal shipments of the product.
