ANMP begins discussions on Portuguese local electoral law reform
The National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) has begun discussions to provide recommendations for the revision of the local electoral law. During a board meeting in Lamego, ANMP President Pedro Pimpão stated that the current legal framework is inadequate and that the goal is to ensure greater governing stability for municipalities.
The association intends to submit its findings and proposed models to the Parliament. In addition to electoral reform, the meeting addressed concerns regarding unfinished works funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), with the association calling for rapid implementation of commitments through the Portugal 2030 program, particularly in health and education. The financial imbalance of Portuguese municipalities was also a key topic of discussion.
