Anne Hidalgo and Patrick Bloche face legal complaints over school violence scandal
Former Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and her former First Deputy, Patrick Bloche, are facing legal action following a scandal involving sexual violence in extracurricular school activities. Three families have filed complaints for failure to assist persons in danger, alleging that municipal officials were aware of the risks but failed to act. The legal proceedings stem from incidents at a public school in Paris's 7th arrondissement, where two activity supervisors were indicted in May for sexual assault and rape affecting approximately twenty children.
In response to the growing crisis, French Minister of National Education Edouard Geffray announced that new, anonymous questions regarding gender-based and sexual violence will be added to the annual student harassment questionnaires. This measure aims to identify victims across all grade levels.
Regional responses have also emerged, with Toulouse Mayor Jean-Luc Moudenc announcing new security and training measures for extracurricular staff.
