Annecy Animation Festival Awards Portuguese Film and Showcases Brazilian Projects

The short film “Porque hoje é sábado” by Portuguese director Alice Eça Guimarães won the Special City of Annecy prize at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Festival. The co‑production between Portugal, France and Spain was part of the Perspetivas competition and adds to its previous accolades at festivals in Tokyo and Tallinn, qualifying it for the 2027 Oscar nomination process.

Brazil’s Spcine used the same festival to promote São Paulo’s audiovisual sector, presenting two local shorts – “Arrigo Barnabé: Clara Crocodilo” and “Madrugada no Edifício Terezinha” – and sponsoring a Partner Pitch session at the MIFA market. The initiative introduced five new São Paulo projects to international investors, highlighting the city’s ongoing strategy to internationalise its animation talent and productions.
