Overview

Following the 54th Gramado Film Festival in August 2026, award-winning productions have transitioned to theatrical releases and international considerations.

The film is scheduled for theatrical release in Brazil on 5 November 2026.

In September 2026, the Academia Brasileira de Cinema narrowed an initial list of 15 eligible films down to six finalists competing to represent Brazil in the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Oscars. On 20 September, ‘Feito Pipa’ was officially selected as Brazil’s entry. The film follows 11-year-old Gugu (Yuri Gomes) and his grandmother, Dilma, as they navigate family bonds and the challenges of her declining health. While ‘Vicentina Pede Desculpas’ failed to win the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival, securing automatic eligibility, ‘Feito Pipa’ remains Brazil’s sole representative in the official selection process.

The submission deadline for countries is 1 October, with the Academy expected to announce a shortlist on 15 December and official nominations on 21 January. Meanwhile, producer Rodrigo Teixeira suggested at the San Sebastián Festival that international films could represent 60% of the Best Picture category within five years due to increased creative freedom outside the United States.
