ANPC conducts nationwide inspections, issuing millions in fines

The National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) conducted extensive inspections across Romania between September 7 and 11, 2026, targeting over 1,600 economic operators to ensure product safety and legal compliance.

Nationwide, the inspections resulted in 1,102 fines totaling more than 3.98 million lei. Authorities permanently removed non-compliant products worth 115,000 lei from the market and temporarily halted services for eight operators. Additionally, products valued at 2.55 million lei were temporarily suspended from sale. Common violations included improper labeling, lack of Romanian translations, expired or degraded products, and unhygienic cooking environments.

In the Brăila region, specific thematic controls in rural areas during the summer season revealed significant health risks. Inspections of leisure facilities, such as beaches and pools, identified unsafe equipment and operating without necessary permits. In food service units, authorities seized 18 kg of food worth 510 lei and found issues such as frozen fruits being thawed and refrozen, the use of expired syrups, and unhygienic utensils. Other findings included improper storage of glassware, lack of allergen information, and inadequate waste management.
