Romanian consumer and labour enforcement surge

Entities: National Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) · Penny · ENCINGER SK s.r.o. · Wellgood · Romanian coastal tourism establishments

Overview

Labour‑safety inspections continued through late July, with the Territorial Labor Inspectorate in Brașov concluding a national occupational safety campaign that imposed 74,500 lei in fines after 36 checks, adding a 40,000 lei penalty for improper waste separation. In Timișoara, police‑led site inspections reached 289 visits, issuing 203 penalties totalling 764,500 lei for green‑space damage, missing fencing and illegal dumping. The campaign is slated to run until early December 2026.

Consumer‑protection actions expanded as well. In Olt County, 131 food‑service businesses were inspected between 1–23 July, resulting in four fines of 40,000 lei, three warnings and the suspension of a grill‑type restaurant, with 13 kg of meat paste withdrawn. A nationwide ANPC sweep from 20–24 July examined over 1,400 operators, issuing 788 fines worth roughly 4 million lei, 567 warnings, halting sales of non‑conforming goods valued at more than 144,000 lei and temporarily banning products worth 127,000 lei. Violations spanned expired foods, improper storage temperatures, faulty refrigeration, rusted equipment and inadequate pool maintenance.

The National Authority for Veterinary and Food Safety (ANSVSA) further stepped up scrutiny in late July. Inspections at 217 gas‑station outlets that prepare and sell food produced 19 fines totalling 134,800 lei, 18 warnings, the suspension of one operator and the withdrawal of 12 kg of unsafe pastry products. Concurrently, ANSVSA ordered the recall of two WELLGOOD seed products (flax seeds and mixed salad seeds) from Penny supermarkets in Gorj after laboratory tests detected cyanogenic acid levels above EU limits. Consumers were advised to return the specific batches for a full refund without a receipt.

Together these actions show an intensifying, coordinated crackdown across construction, tourism, food service and other sectors during Romania’s summer heat wave.
