ANPD demands explanations from Discord over video feature suspension in Brazil

Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) has requested explanations from Discord following reports that real-time video features remained available to Brazilian users during a preventive suspension.

On August 12, the ANPD issued a preventive measure ordering Discord to suspend live streaming and equivalent video-sharing features in Brazil. This order was implemented to protect children and adolescents after investigations suggested the platform lacked sufficient age verification and content removal mechanisms to mitigate risks to minors.

The ANPD clarified that the restriction applies specifically to live broadcasts and video sharing, not the platform's entire functionality. The authority warned that failure to comply with preventive measures could result in further actions, including daily fines. The suspension will remain in place until Discord demonstrates the adoption of safeguards capable of protecting young users.
