ANPD launches reporting channel for social media irregularities

The Brazilian National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) has launched a dedicated webpage to receive reports regarding irregularities by internet applications and social media platforms. The new channel is intended to facilitate monitoring and enforcement of obligations by service providers.

Users can report various issues, including the absence of channels for reporting criminal content, failures in mechanisms meant to prevent the promotion of illicit content, the lack of a legal representative in Brazil, and failure to comply with content removal deadlines. The initiative follows recent criticisms regarding the agency's response to a case involving a 13-year-old girl's suicide on the Discord platform. In that instance, Judge Vanessa Cavalieri described the ANPD's actions as an 'omission.'

The new reporting mechanism is supported by decrees 12.975/2026 and 12.976/2026, which updated the regulations of the Internet Civil Framework and expanded the ANPD's authority to protect users in digital environments.
