Ansan Mayor Lee Min-geun unveils vision for ninth municipal administration

Ansan Mayor Lee Min-geun has announced his vision for the ninth popularly elected municipal administration, titled ‘Administration of Connection.’ Building on the foundations of the previous term, which achieved a 92.7% pledge fulfillment rate, the new administration aims to deliver tangible results for citizens across five core areas: citizen-centricity, high-tech innovation, welfare and culture, future education, and transportation environments.

Key strategic initiatives include the development of the Ansan Science Valley within the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone and the transformation of the Banwol National Industrial Complex through Artificial Intelligence (AX). The city plans to invest 28 billion won by 2028 to establish an AX demonstration complex, featuring an AI comprehensive support center and a manufacturing AI open lab to assist small and medium-sized enterprises.

Other major projects involve the undergrounding of the Ansan Line to create urban green spaces, the establishment of a 500-bed general hospital at Hanyang University ERICA, and the creation of an ‘Edu-Town’ in the Sadong area. To support social welfare, the city will introduce affordable rental housing for youth and enhanced childcare policies, such as the ‘Working Mom All-Pass’ program. Despite potential budget constraints due to changes in Gyeonggi Province's matching fund ratios, Mayor Lee emphasized prioritizing pledges to ensure Ansan remains a city of pride for its residents.
