Ansan City municipal administration and development
Overview
Ansan City has established its administrative framework for the 9th term, titled ‘Ansan, a Free Innovation City Together with Citizens.’ The plan involves 120 detailed tasks across five strategic sectors: citizen-centered administration, high-tech innovation, welfare and culture, future education, and transportation. Mayor Lee Min-geun has defined this vision as the ‘Administration of Connection,’ aiming to build upon a previous term that achieved a 92.7% pledge fulfillment rate. To drive high-tech innovation, the city plans to invest 28 billion won by 2028 to transform the Banwol National Industrial Complex through Artificial Intelligence (AX). This includes establishing an AX demonstration complex, an AI comprehensive support center, and a manufacturing AI open lab. Additionally, the city intends to develop the Ansan Science Valley within the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone.
Infrastructure and social welfare projects include undergrounding the Ansan Line, establishing a 500-bed general hospital at Hanyang University ERICA, and creating an ‘Edu-Town’ in the Sadong area. To support residents, the administration will introduce affordable rental housing for youth and childcare initiatives like the ‘Working Mom All-Pass’ program.
In late 2026, the city marked its 40th anniversary with several community-focused events. On October 17, the ‘2026 Ansan Youth Policy Forum’ gathered approximately 100 young residents for discussions intended to serve as foundational data for future youth-centered policies. Following this, the city hosted ‘Ansan Festa 2026’ from October 23–25, an integrated autumn festival at Hwarang Park and the Ansan Arts Center that consolidated seven local celebrations, including the 7th Kim Hong-do Festival.
