Eforie Nord reports drowning death and food safety violations

A series of safety concerns and incidents have been reported along the Romanian Black Sea coast. In Eforie Nord, a man aged between 61 and 68 died after entering the sea despite red flags being displayed due to high waves and strong currents. Lifeguards reported that the individual had been rescued from the waves three times earlier in the day before the fatal incident occurred. Emergency services, including SMURD and helicopter support, attempted resuscitation efforts, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Separately, food safety authorities (ANSVSA) have conducted extensive inspections during the summer season. Authorities reported seizing nearly two tons of non-compliant food products and issuing fines totaling nearly three million lei. Large-scale inspections coordinated by the Constanța Tribunal revealed highly unsanitary conditions in areas where food for beach vendors was prepared. Reports highlighted improvised kitchens with exposed wiring, dirty floors, and food stored near waste or construction materials, prompting warnings to tourists regarding the hygiene of street food.
