ANTAC demands security reforms after cargo operator murder
The National Association of Transporters (ANTAC) is seeking new agreements with authorities to address rising insecurity on Mexican highways following the murder of cargo operator José Antonio de la Rosa Zárate.
De la Rosa Zárate, an operator from Orizaba, was reported missing on September 21 while traveling toward Toluca. His body was later recovered, and the tanks from his vehicle were found in Ecatepec. ANTAC leader David Estévez Gamboa criticized current federal security measures, such as the “Cero Robo al Transporte” plan and the “Balam” strategy operated by the National Guard, labeling them as “failed strategies.”
In response to the increasing violence, which ANTAC notes has escalated from cargo theft to lethal aggression against drivers, the organization is considering new protest strategies. Additionally, ANTAC is proposing legislation to establish permanent financial support for the widows of operators killed in the line of duty to mitigate the economic vulnerability of their families.
