North Marmara Highway bus crash leaves 2 dead and 8 injured

A passenger bus traveling from Diyarbakır to Istanbul caught fire after crashing into barriers on the North Marmara Highway in the Eyüpsultan district. The accident occurred near the Işıklar Junction on September 13, 2026, after the driver lost control of the vehicle, reportedly due to slippery road conditions caused by rain.

Two people died in the incident, and eight others were injured, including one person in serious condition. Of the 18 people on board, which included 16 passengers and two staff members, eight managed to exit the vehicle without injury. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, which quickly engulfed the Metro Turizm bus, leaving it completely unusable.

Istanbul Governor Davut Gül visited the site to oversee operations. He confirmed that an administrative and judicial investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash and to check for any technical deficiencies in the vehicle. Security footage of the accident is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
