Wildfires strike Muğla and Antalya, destroying over 20 boats
Multiple wildfires are impacting the Muğla and Antalya regions of Turkey. In Muğla’s Seydikemer district, a fire starting in an agricultural area spread to forests and crossed into Antalya’s Kaş district due to high winds reaching speeds of 50 to 70 km/h. The proximity of the blaze to the Saklıkent Canyon led authorities to temporarily close the site to visitors. Emergency response efforts involve hundreds of personnel, including 19 aircraft and dozens of ground vehicles.
Separately, a significant fire broke out at the Antalya Fishing Harbor in the Sarısu neighborhood of Konyaaltı around 03:30. Driven by winds exceeding 60 km/h, the flames destroyed more than 20 boats that were pulled ashore for maintenance or storage. Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin stated that while the fire was contained before spreading to moored vessels or forested areas, the damage to the boats was severe. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the harbor fire, including potential allegations of arson.
