Antalya implements sea barriers and waste collectors at Phaselis

As part of the Antalya Blue Mediterranean Initiative, new measures to combat marine pollution have been implemented at the South Harbor of the Phaselis Ancient City in Kemer. The project includes the installation of a 575-meter-long sea barrier system and the deployment of two remote-controlled waste collectors designed to gather floating debris and plastic waste.

Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin stated that the initiative aims to protect the marine ecosystem and prevent waste from spreading. He noted that the project is not limited to financial support; a regular operational model is being developed in collaboration with the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and local district municipalities.

Future plans include signing a protocol with the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry to install similar barriers at the mouths of all rivers in the Antalya region to intercept waste at its source.
