Antalya Municipality launches water-saving irrigation project

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has launched an innovative irrigation project aimed at increasing green spaces while reducing water consumption. To combat drought risks associated with climate change, the municipality is transforming urban landscapes using drought-tolerant and climate-friendly plant species suitable for the Mediterranean climate.

In the Konyaaltı district, specifically on Gazi Mustafa Kemal Boulevard, the municipality has begun implementing Zoysia grass, a warm-climate turf that is more resistant to heat, drought, and pests than traditional varieties. This transition includes the installation of underground drip irrigation systems, which deliver water directly to the root zones to minimize evaporation and surface water loss.
