Antalya prepares for COP31 climate summit

The 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will be held in Antalya, Turkey, from 9 to 20 November. Delegates from 196 countries are expected, with an anticipated attendance of 80,000 to 120,000 participants and a projected economic impact of about $2 billion.

Turkish authorities have established a dedicated COP31 office to coordinate security, transport, health, accommodation and logistics. Infrastructure works include new overpasses, upgraded roads near the hotel zone, a heliport, and expanded parking facilities. The venue will feature separate "Blue" and "Green" zones for state leaders and civil‑society participants, a UN office, meeting halls, exhibition areas and media centers.

Hotel occupancy in Antalya’s historic Kaleiçi district has reached full capacity, with boutique hotels reporting 100 % bookings. The local tourism association has launched three sustainability projects for the summit: zero‑waste initiatives, a "COP31 Green Business" certification for eco‑friendly operators, and a logistics hub using electric delivery vehicles to reduce heavy‑truck traffic in the old town. The preparations aim to showcase Turkish cuisine and regional crafts while ensuring a low‑carbon footprint for the event.
